Next Great Place contest means big things for winner
Burlington Downtown Corporation’s Next Great Place competition is down to five semi-finalists, after one dropped out of the game this week. However, the remaining five hopefuls are still confident that their proposed businesses will make downtown Burlington a more desirable place to visit.
The five semifinalists are competing for a prize package from the BDC, including a year of free rent in one of three downtown locations, $3,000 in marketing and $15,000 in upgrade funds. In the first round of the competition, 10 applicants turned in video submissions, outlining their business plans and describing why their proposed businesses would be good fits for downtown Burlington.
Of those 10 applicants, six were chosen to move forward and submit full business plans to a panel of judges pulled from the BDC board and downtown business and property owners. From there, three finalists will move on to the contest’s final round, The Big Event, at Company Shops Market on April 28.
