Sweethearts stock up at farmers market
Sweets for your sweetie were the fare for the day at New Bern Farmer’s Market Saturday. And if she or he is a jewel, well, there were possibly perfect choices aplenty.
There was no age gap or gender divide for the Chocolate and Jewelry Day event set just in time for Valentine’s Day on Tuesday. Lots of lovie-dovies were buying and selling for the occasion.
Kelsey Andrews of New Bern was selling chocolate as a favor to her grandfather, Tom Taylor, who usually runs the chocolate-covered peanuts booth. The ECU student brought Andrew Marks, her own special valentine, along to make the 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. job a joy.
Jeff and Ginger Garvey got to double their pleasure as well, as the Fort Barnwell couple sold wares from Jeff’s hobby-turned-sideline job at Recycling is for the Birds.
A trim carpenter by trade, Jeff Garvey said the New Bern Farmer’s Market is the only venue for his recycled wood and metal houses that use rustic wood with fence finials or hinges along with old license tags or tin roof pieces to create an interesting collection of bird houses.
